Don’t be dismayed by the nay-sayers strewn in your path. They are just obstacles on the road to your success. Climb over them, go under them, or go around them. They are training you to be creative and strong, and which are needed to maintain a career in the spotlight. So keep on going and prove them wrong!     Chellie Campbell

Creativity

Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity.

Charles Mingus

Creativity may be the most defining characteristic of gifted adults because no matter what they are doing, the multi-talented gifted person is always utilizing their uniqueness, originality and creativity in everything they do.

Creativity is the lifeblood of gifted, talented and creative people of all ages.

Yes, multi-talented gifted adults exhibit highly creative thinking and behaviors. Gifted and creative adults just can’t help it, they are original in the way they do things—no one can change that.

Gifted adults are very creative in many areas, not just in the arts or entertainment .

Gifted adults are intellectually, emotionally, sensually, imaginationally, and physically creative and creating all the time. Gifted adults also enjoy many distinctly creative and artistic pursuits, but are not limited to them

In the intellectual domain, creativity is referred to as divergent thinking. In business, creativity is looked upon as productivity, leadership, innovation or vision. In the arts, creativity is looked upon as talent, vision and skill.

In education, creativity is looked upon as variety and spirit. In psychology creativity is looked upon as variation, innovation, emergence and sometimes madness.

In sports, creativity is looked upon as talent and skill. In entertainment, creativity, when the population responds to it in a big way, means success, big money, and paparazzi. These are just a few examples.

Everyone and every field or business does not look upon creativity, creative ideas or creative people as positive forces—even when they benefit greatly from them.

I didn't belong as a kid, and that always bothered me.  If only I'd known that one day my differences would be an asset, then my early life would have been much easier.

Bette Midler

Most of the time creative ideas and people are misjudged, mistreated, unappreciated and just plain misunderstood-- not to mention mislabeled and misdiagnosed as crazy, stupid, etc.

To be truly creative, one must develop the skills to endure being a minority of one and to remain honest. This takes more courage than most people can summon.

Genius May Be an Abnormality: Educating Students with Asperger's Syndrome, or High Functioning Autism
Temple Grandin, Ph.D.

I am becoming increasingly concerned that intellectually gifted children are being denied opportunities because they are being labeled either Asperger's or high functioning autism. Within the last year I have talked to several parents, and I was disturbed by what they said. One mother called me and was very upset that her six-year-old son had Asperger's. She then went on to tell me that his IQ was 150. I replied that before people knew about Asperger's Syndrome, their child would have received a very positive label of intellectually gifted......More

Creativity Across the Life-Span
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

Creative individuals are those who are able to internalize this system, which includes the domain, the field, and the person. They start with personal talent, interests, curiosity, and drive. They learn and take seriously the rules, the problems, and the conflicts that exist in the symbolic domain in which they have chosen to work. At the same time, they learn the criteria, priorities, and the concerns of other people who comprise the field. They anticipate what others will say when t hey see or hear their own new ideas. In all of the fields we studied, individuals are very aware of what colleagues and other people in their field are doing, thinking, and what their concerns are. It is very rare to find the isolated creator … More
